San Sebastian

sanseb

After the group dwindling down to just me remaining I left Phil in Madrid for the drive up to San Sebastian. Arriving at around 9pm after a few stops along the way I checked into my hostel and went straight out to get into the action.

Pintxo bars are the norm up here which is basically the Basque version of tapas. I find these bars interesting as they basically work on the honour system as you just eat and drink and pay when you´re done by telling them what you have eaten. Having minimal Spanish it´s interesting sorting the bill by pointing to all the food you have eaten.

The beaches here are stunning as the old buildings make a great backdrop to the two main beaches. Which are packed from morning to night.

Driving to Bilbao so see the bullfighting this afternoon with some other people from the hostel. Should be interesting.

Madrid

madrid-arvobeer

After hearing horror stories about the traffic in Madrid we had a pretty good run driving into the city at peak hour. Although our GPS sent us in the wrong direction we managed to track down our hotel.

Tapas bars like in Barcelona are everywhere although the food is slightly different. Different in the fact that you´re basically still eating cured Salami and Chorizo but it´s presented differently.

Phil and I managed to do a bit of drinking here and most nights were quite late seeing as nothing kicks off until well after 1am. We found a great little family owned bar which has been open since 1867. Had some great wine and food there a few nights.

Overall I prefered Barcelona but Madrid is a great city. Kristy tells me she is still writing her Barcelona post so i´ll leave that explanation up to her.

Space 20th Anniversary

On arriving at Space for the 20th anniversary we were greeted with smiles, pumping music (yes it was 6pm), a free t-shirt and a free drink. Clearly the drink was the highlight of my night as I was getting sick of spending 10Euro (yes that is $20AUD) on a beer.

After the delicious beer we sampled the delights of Djuma Soundsystem (try their track ‘Les Djins’ for a sample) followed by Yousef who played some crackin’ house and then of course the one we all wanted to see – Deadmau5.

Space the club is amazing. If you haven’t been, there are around 7 different rooms from open air areas to bars and a large auditorium.
The latter is where at midnight they held a tribute to the past 20 years of the club. Circus freaks, fireworks, a Michael Jackson montage and streamers from the ceiling certainly made the night something special.

With a limited effort on the posting whilst in ibiza (for one reason or another) I’m sure the next week will provide the readers with some enjoyable stories.

Clubbing causes blog slackness

Ok I know we have been a bit slack on the posts on here but Kristy has been promising me she would write a great post for the last 3-4 days and obviously nothing had happened (apparently she needs a glass of red while writing to get inspiration)

We´ve had a large couple of days since the last post. We´ve been to Space on Sunday where we saw James Zabiela, Dave Guetta and Grace Jones. It was a huge night and the club was absulutely going bananas.

Last night we went and watched the sunset over in San Antonio and had a drink down by the water by Cafe Del Mar which was stunning. After that relaxing little afternoon we decided to and smash it at Amnesia seeing Roger Sanchez, Laidback Luke and Armin Van Burren.

Having some issues uploading pics from the internet cafe so will hopefully get some up soon.

It´s on like…

Absolutely nuts over here at the moment. Saw Sasha in Amnesia last night which was the best club night i´ve ever been to by a country mile and Pacha for Sneaky Sound System the night before (Thanks heaps for sorting the free entry Scotty). Fourth day and we are all completely spent.

Getting the villa tomorrow. Looking forward to lazing by the pool. We´ll upload some pics soon.

One week and counting…

This page will serve as a glimpse of our adventures for friends and family back home who couldn’t be there to party with us. And maybe for us when we have forgotten what we did two nights ago.

With only seven days remaining until we board the plane to Europe, club tickets are being purchased and bags are ready to be packed. Our carefully selected team has trained hard over many years to build up the required stamina for a holiday of this kind.

Bring it on.
